Delivering Excellence Through Dedicated Pathology Expertise

About our Pathology Service

Our Pathology & Laboratory unit provides a full spectrum of diagnostic testing including clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, histopathology, cytology and the latest molecular diagnostic assays. We combine advanced instruments with strict quality control and experienced pathologists to ensure rapid, accurate results you can rely on.

Comprehensive Pathology Services & Patient Guidance

Pathology is the backbone of modern medicine — every major clinical decision for diagnosis, treatment planning, monitoring of chronic disease and emergency care relies on accurate laboratory data. At Pragma Medical Institute our Pathology Department blends technical excellence with patient-centred service. The team is composed of senior pathologists, clinical laboratory scientists, microbiologists and molecular technologists who together ensure each sample is processed under strict quality controls and interpreted with clinical context in mind.

Our Core Services

We offer a wide range of laboratory services:

  • Clinical Pathology: Routine blood tests, electrolytes, kidney and liver function tests, lipid panels and markers used for chronic disease monitoring.
  • Hematology: CBCs, peripheral smear review, coagulation profiles, hemoglobin variants and special hematology testing with rapid reporting for emergent care.
  • Biochemistry: High-precision analyzers for biochemical assays including cardiac markers (troponin), thyroid function tests, diabetes panels (glucose, HbA1c) and therapeutic drug monitoring.
  • Microbiology: Culture & sensitivity, rapid antigen testing, serology and PCR-based pathogen detection to guide antimicrobial therapy and infection control.
  • Histopathology: Tissue biopsy processing and reporting, immunohistochemistry and histologic consultation for surgical pathology specimens.
  • Cytopathology: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), Pap smears and body-fluid cytology with experienced cytopathologists providing quick turnaround.
  • Molecular Diagnostics: PCR and next-generation based assays for infectious agents, genetic mutation testing, and targeted molecular markers important in oncology and personalized medicine.

Why accurate pathology matters

Errors or delays in laboratory reporting can change clinical outcomes. That is why we invest in redundancy (backup analyzers), participate in external quality assessment programs, and enforce strict pre-analytical procedures (correct sample labelling, timed transport, temperature control). For clinicians, our reporting format highlights critical values and includes interpretive comments from pathologists when needed. For patients, we provide friendly guidance on sample preparation and explain common results in plain language on request.

Patient preparation & common FAQs

Preparing for tests often improves accuracy. For blood sugar tests, fasting is usually required for 8–10 hours. For lipid panels, fasting is often recommended unless your clinician advises otherwise. For microbiology swabs, avoid topical antiseptics before collection. If a biopsy/ FNAC is scheduled, follow your clinician’s instructions about medications (e.g., blood thinners) and arrival times.

Frequently asked questions: How long until I get results? — Routine blood tests typically within same day to 24 hours; specialized molecular tests can take 2–7 days depending on complexity. Are results confidential? — Yes, all lab reports are handled under patient confidentiality policies and released only to authorized providers and the patient.

Quality & safety

Our laboratory follows national accreditation standards, uses calibrated instruments and runs daily internal controls. Pathologists review critical and abnormal results directly with treating teams. We also have a structured incident-review process to continuously improve lab performance.

How we support clinical teams

Beyond routine reporting, our pathologists provide consultative support — from selecting appropriate tests to interpreting complex or unexpected results. We provide rapid intra-operative frozen section support when surgeons require immediate microscopic assessment during procedures.

Research & teaching

Pragma actively participates in clinical research and training. The pathology department mentors junior doctors, conducts case-review meetings, and collaborates with clinical units on research projects that advance patient care.

When to contact the lab directly

If you are a clinician: contact us for urgent critical results, complex case discussion, or to arrange specialty tests. If you are a patient: contact our patient services team for sample pickup, report queries, or clarification of results.

Patient-centered features

We offer same-day sample collection for admitted patients, home-collection services in designated zones, and secure online delivery of reports. Our lab also provides pre-test counselling for specific genetic or oncologic tests.

Contact & location

The Pathology Department is located on the ground floor of Pragma Medical Institute with direct access from the main lobby. Our helpline and sample pickup scheduling operate 24/7 for admitted patients and during working hours for outpatient/home collections.
